Delta Chapter History

On November 4, 2001, eight women formed the Delta Chapter of Delta Phi Omega Sorority, Inc at DePaul University. Through hard work and determination, we are proud to be part of such an extraordinary organization. We sought to have an organization in the Midwest that would continue promoting the advancement of South Asian women and service to the community, thus continuing the legacy of our national founding mothers. With the support of our sisters nationwide, we were able to fulfill this mission and become the first chapter in the Midwest.

Delta Chapter was officially recognized by DePaul University and the Multicultural Greek Council on February 28, 2002. This achievement and recognition by DePaul University was a challenging milestone well deserved by the hard work and dedication of all the sisters.

Delta Chapter strives to uphold the pride of Delta Phi Omega through commitment to the five pillars of DPO: honesty, loyalty, respect, friendship, and sisterhood.

Our goal is to expand DPO within the DePaul University through informative and innovative programs. Our mission is to expand Delta Phi Omega throughout the Midwest and continue being one of the nation’s largest South Asian sororities.

We the sisters of Delta Phi Omega have begun a conquest, which will hold its legacy throughout the future in Chicago. We dreamt of creating a South Asian sorority, we saw our way to obtain it, and conquered all obstacles in our path. Our motto reads: “We Dreamt, We Saw, We Conquered.” The sisters of Delta Phi Omega truly are Destined to Prevail against all Odds.

National History

Delta Phi Omega Sorority, Inc. was established on December 6, 1998 at the University of Houston, Texas. Seventeen South Asian women recognized the need for an organization to promote the advancement of South Asian women. These women from various backgrounds came together with the common goal of uniting women among the South Asian community.

The Founders created the backbone of this sorority on the basis of the five pillars of Sisterhood, Respect, Loyalty, Honesty, and Friendship. They envisioned an organization that would highlight the diverse Indian culture through participation in community and social service projects.

Through determination and perseverance, this vision evolved into a reality and as a result has become a highly sought after organization for South Asian women across the United States. With each passing year, Delta Phi Omega continues to grow and make its presence known not only within their respective universities but also within the community. Foreseeing a rapid expansion of the sorority and acknowledging the need for a central governing entity, several alumni sisters took the initiative to form the first National Council of Delta Phi Omega Sorority, Inc. Founded on February 1, 2002, the National Council became the administrative and governing body of Delta Phi Omega Sorority, Inc., posessing jurisdiction over all component parts of the sorority. Delta Phi Omega has expanded to include chapters and colonies all over the nation, from the east to the west coast. The women of Delta Phi Omega understand that only through hard work, optimism, and a pure vision will the notion of sisterhood among South Asians prevail. We are Delta Phi Omega, Sisters for Life!
